25 FebSeveral facts about the sleep apnea masks

Sleep apnea is a condition that occurs in around 5% of grown-up population and it is in fact the obstruction of the airways that happens during the sleep. It can be due to a number of reasons, but the most common one is the loosening of the soft tissue at the back of the palate. It is much more serious than you would imagine, as the person gets reduced amounts of oxygen to the brain during the night. This can result in headaches and general fatigue during the day.

Also, the increased level of carbon-dioxide in the body can result in higher blood pressure, heart condition and even stroke in cases.

One of the most successful ways of fighting the effects of the sleep apnea is by suing sleep apnea masks. These are in fact masks that are connected to devices, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy devices that pump pressurized air into the mouth and the nose of the person suffering from sleep apnea, thus making sure they get enough oxygen.

One has to be careful about several points when getting a perfect mask. The most important are the fit and the size, making sure that the air is not leaking anywhere and that one is comfortable wearing it, no matter in what position they sleep in. There are masks specially designed so that one can wear glasses while wearing the mask.

There is also a new invention which is in fact two tubes that are inserted in the nose and that are much more comfortable. They are however unsuitable for those who breathe through the mouth. But for them, there are now mouth-masks available, covering only the mouth and not the nose.
